This book addresses the issues of international security after the end
of the Cold War. It looks at key changes that have taken place since
1989, analyzes the main issues, and considers those trends that are
likely to shape international security policy in the coming decades.
This book contains two different studies. In the first, researchers from
the International Institute of Strategic Studies, the Graduate
Institute of International Studies and the RAND Corporation offer their
views on the development of post-Cold War security policy. The second
part comprises of cases studies that focus on future challenges in
European and US security policy. The book concludes with a comparative
analysis by the editors who attempt to identify discernible trends and
to raise those questions whose resolution will be decisive for the
development of international security in the 21st century.
